Weekends with The Fizz

These last couple incredible weekends have been more than just “keeping busy.” For two Saturdays, I got to bring a party to a community event and play around on the radio.

About a year and a half ago, my friend Chris Kelley and I started an internet radio station – The Fizz Radio. It was something fun to do in our spare time. We built our station from a CD collection that my wife and I had gathered over many years, and ended up with 2.5 terrabytes of music. Enough to keep the station running for days without any repeats. Chris gets to revisit his classic FM radio persona, J. Y. Kelley, and I get to jump back into my college radio persona Hurricane Andrew.

A few months later, our friend Liz “Wylder” Boyer joined our happy little radio family, revisiting her on-air legacy and sounding as polished and professional as ever. We are lucky to have her in our sandbox.

I do not take for granted friendships I’ve made throughout my career. My friend Ben Boese, owner of Huge Prints here in Loves Park, has been a key part of the successes of these last few weekends. He’s become our first major sponsor, and delivered an incredible pop-up tent, a beautiful tablecloth, and a bundle of very popular giveaway goodies. Stickers, dice bags, hundreds of nick-knacks out in the world reminding people to tune into our internet station. Because he believes in us and enjoys our quirky station. (Seriously – if you want merch and displays that make your company stand out, talk to my guy Ben. He’s top notch.)

These have been weekends of smiles, great music, immaculate vibes, and people swaying, dancing, and singing along to favorite songs they haven’t heard in a long time.

Give our station a listen and let me know what you think. Or better yet – tell me what song you heard us play that you hadn’t heard in a long time.

May The Fizz be with you!
