Building Next-Rockford.org

I’d only been a member of Next Rockford for about a year when I was approached to help solve a problem: The organization had lost control of it’s URL.

The old Next Rockford website had lapsed in ownership and had changed hands, becoming irretrievable to the organization. I was nominated to become the Communications Chair and asked to figuring out what to do next.

After several months of attempting to regain control, reaching out to former members to find out if anyone still had access, our committee determined that we’d need a new URL, and that we’d need to start over. With questionable content starting to pop up at our old webpage, we needed a new presence on the internet, and we needed it quickly.

Our facilitator, Maureen, had done an admirable job recreating the website in WordPress, but once we had a new URL to market, it only made sense to create with a template that would meet modern internet design requirements.

Canva was a significant help in putting together a design that would work both on tablets and phones, while still looking great on a desktop.

I leaned into the colors of the current logo (there is talk of a new logo coming soon that will likely use the same color scheme), and found an easy-to-scroll theme that helped us keep focus on the reasons to join – our members.

We’ve got the ability to add blog posts to recap recent events, and an active calendar that syncs with the organization’s Google calendar.

As of 9/28, www.next-rockford.org is live, and I’m excited to see the reception for the new site. Give it a look and let me know what you think!

I am looking forward to more projects like this in the future – so if you are looking to redevelop your website for your small non-profit, reach out to me.

Thanks again to the Strategy Team at Next Rockford for your collaboration and support. I’m excited for what’s next to come.
